He always said she was good as gold

Today I planned 2009, it is the curse of the editor that your time is measured by dots on a wall planner, dates on a spreadsheet or some other date-based demarkation that rules your life. It was as I was putting in the dates for December 2009 that I realized it was nearly 2010. I shouldn’t have been surprised, of course, as it quite naturally follows on but I remember how huge the year 2000 seemed to me at the time. How far away everything seemed from that date almost as if it was a starting point and everything was in front. In that time I’ve lived in Leeds, Swindon, London, Leeds and Halifax in a total of 6 homes, had 5 jobs and become immeasurably richer (see images below) than I could have imagined even then and become much, much, more cynical.

Anyway, 2009 is now neatly split into 4 and 2 week cycles of copy, layout and proofing. I know that before I’ve recovered from the inevitable Christmas hangover I’ll look up and it’ll be April and before I know it I’ll be planning 2010. And all because the lady loves milk tray my life is split down in to tiny compartments that last until the red dot that falls on Fridays and Mondays.

So happy Christmas and a stirling new year to you all, it is, after all where I am in my schedule so it must be in yours right?

Damned red dots, make me sick.
